National Press Festival 2025: Honoring 100 Years of Revolutionary Vietnamese Journalism
This year’s Festival holds special significance as it marks the 100th anniversary of the formation and development of the Vietnamese revolutionary press. The activities are held on a large scale, rich in content, and profound in meaning, reflecting the full identity of Vietnamese journalism from tradition to modernity.
Innovating mindsets, technology, and organizational models in journalism
According to the Organizing Committee, over 80 central and local press agencies are participating in the Festival, with nearly 130 exhibition booths. The booths showcase diverse forms and content, covering all aspects of political, economic, cultural, defense-security, and foreign affairs. Newsrooms present multi-platform journalistic products applying AI, virtual reality, 3D modeling, and holofan technologies.
A highlight of the Festival is the central exhibition space featuring the theme “100 Years of Revolutionary Vietnamese Journalism: Achievements and Development Trends in the New Era.” For the first time, the history of revolutionary journalism is vividly reenacted through memorable milestones. The exhibition, curated by the Vietnam Press Museum, emphasizes the deep-rooted traditions and progressive ideology of Vietnamese journalism.
The Ministry of Science and Technology will also issue a special commemorative stamp set to mark the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press – a cultural imprint associated with the evolution of technology.
The Vietnam Journalists Association will host the second National Journalism Forum, featuring 12 in-depth discussion sessions with the participation of media agency leaders, veteran journalists, and domestic and international communication experts. This is considered a regionally significant professional activity that offers a high-quality platform for discussing the future of journalism.
Discussion topics include timely and practical issues such as: “Vietnamese Journalism – Vision in the New Era”, “Women’s Voices in Newsroom Leadership”, “Engaging the Young Audience”, “AI and Newsroom Strategy”, “Data Journalism and Personalization Trends”, “Podcast vs. Radio: Who Wins the Race?”, and “Strategies to Retain Television Viewers”.
Alongside professional content, the Festival also hosts various community-oriented activities such as the 3rd Journalists & Public Opinion Football Cup, artistic performances, entertainment, and interactive programs for young people and readers – aimed at strengthening the connection between journalists and the public.
Journalistic works reflect modernization trends in the digital era
As part of the activities commemorating 100 years of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism, the 19th National Press Awards Ceremony will be held on the evening of June 21 at the Mỹ Đình Indoor Athletics Arena and broadcast live on VTV2 and VOV2.
Journalist Nguyễn Đức Lợi, Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, shared that this year, the Organizing Committee received 1,970 entries from 17 out of 21 affiliated press unions, 29 directly affiliated associations, and 59 out of 63 provincial and city-level journalist associations. Through the preliminary and final judging rounds, the Awards Council selected 128 outstanding works to be honored, including 13 First Prizes (A), 27 Second Prizes (B), 49 Third Prizes (C), and 39 Consolation Prizes.
The awarded works deeply reflect Vietnam’s political and social landscape in 2024, covering key topics such as institutional reform, administrative unit reorganization, digital transformation, green economic development, natural disaster prevention, traffic safety, and the fight against counterfeit and smuggled goods. Notably, many works highlight touching stories of exemplary individuals and good deeds, spreading positive values across society.
The Closing Ceremony and Awards Presentation of the 19th National Press Awards – 2024 will be held on June 21, 2025, exactly on the 100th anniversary of Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalism Day, at the Mỹ Đình Indoor Athletics Arena, and will be broadcast live on VTV2 (Vietnam Television) and VOV2 (Voice of Vietnam Radio).

Innovation - the “key” to developing television in the digital age
Abstract: In the digital age, communication is undergoing profound changes in both the production and reception of information. Once regarded as the “king” of journalism in the 20th century, television is now facing numerous challenges from the Internet, social media, online video platforms, and the rise of AI, Big Data, and VR/AR. These factors create competitive pressure, to the extent that predictions have been made about the “death of television” in the face of platforms such as YouTube, Netflix, TikTok, or Facebook. To overcome these difficulties and to achieve stronger development, television must innovate and adapt in order to maintain its role in shaping public opinion and reaffirm its position as an important source of information and entertainment in the digital era.
